What is a private (custom) Shopify app?
A private app is software built for a single store and never published on the Shopify App Store. It reaches your store's product, stock, order and customer data through the Shopify Admin API and Storefront API under explicit authorisation, seeing only as much as you permit. Because the setup is specific to your store, you pay no monthly app licence and you do not open your data to a third party's infrastructure.
It usually comes up in three situations: an off-the-shelf app not quite doing the job; three or four apps doing the same work, slowing the store down and inflating the monthly bill; or your own systems, such as an ERP or accounting package, needing to talk to Shopify.
The custom apps we build most often
ERP / accounting bridge
Product, stock, price and order synchronisation with Logo, Netsis, Mikro or your own system.
Bulk operation panels
Managing price, tag or collection updates across thousands of products from one screen.
B2B and wholesale portal
Wholesale price lists, credit limits, quick order forms and approval flows.
Product configurator
Custom product structures priced dynamically by measurement, option or combination.
Warehouse and shipping automation
Order routing rules, multi-warehouse stock logic and automatic label generation.
Reporting and data export
A regular feed of Shopify data into your own data warehouse or reporting tools.
The development process
01
Requirements call
We map your current operation and which work is still manual. If an off-the-shelf app already does the job, we say so plainly.
02
Scope and technical design
The data model, API permissions, interface needs and integration points are agreed in writing.
03
Development
The app is built to Shopify's own interface standards, with progress shown in weekly demos.
04
Testing and data validation
It is tested with real data on a development store; synchronisation and error scenarios are verified.
05
Installation and training
The app is installed on your store, and your team receives training and documentation.
06
Maintenance and release management
Shopify API version updates are tracked, and the app is moved to the current API version each year.
