Demma Home: a brand-specific store on the Horizon theme

Demma Home is a brand selling handmade porcelain cups, plates and home furniture into the German market. We worked on Shopify's Horizon theme: we customised it to the brand's plain, editorial visual language, built the collection architecture around series and material, and entered the entire product catalogue.

What we inherited

  • The brand was newly founded; the store's visual language and catalogue structure had not settled yet.
  • Products had to be groupable both by series name (Hanna, Leon, Charlotte and so on) and by material (glass, wood, metal, velvet).
  • Complementary products such as cups, saucers and sets had to sit separately in the catalogue but stay related.
  • The target market was Germany, so language, currency and the shipping threshold were set up accordingly.

Our goal

  • Turn the Horizon theme into a plain storefront that puts the product photography first.
  • Build a collection architecture that supports the series and material splits at the same time.
  • Enter the product catalogue in full, with images, descriptions and prices.
  • Get ready for the German market with German–English language selection and euro pricing.

Customisation on the Horizon theme

  • Typography, colour and spacing values were redefined for the brand identity, working at section level so theme updates are not broken.
  • The home page was built with a video-led intro section, collection transitions, best sellers and a brand story section.
  • The top menu was simplified to show series and product type collections on one row, with the material split added as a separate heading.
  • Shipping threshold, free returns and hand-packing information were placed in the announcement bar and the footer.

Collection architecture

  • Series-based collections (Hanna, Leon, Charlotte, Jasmin, Felix, Lotta and others) were each built separately.
  • Material-based collections (glass, wood, metal, velvet, fabric, faux leather) were defined to group products along a second axis.
  • Campaign collections such as Modern Mugs and Limited Edition were promoted on the storefront.
  • Cups, saucers and sets were related to one another, and the recommendation area on the product page runs off that relationship.

Product entry

  • Every product was entered with its images, descriptions, prices and collection links.
  • Product names and the code structure were standardised around the series logic, so the same rule holds as the catalogue grows.
  • German product copy was written with the product type split (cup, cup with saucer, set) built in.
  • PayPal and accelerated checkout options were brought onto the product page.

Result

Demma Home went live in the German market with a plain storefront built around its product photography. The catalogue can be browsed by both series and material, and because new products are added under the same rules, the structure holds as the store grows.
