What does this integration do?
The Netgsm integration connects Shopify's order lifecycle to an SMS flow: branded messages go out automatically at order confirmation, dispatch, delivery and return. We set up the API sub-user and its permissions; OTP, voice messages and switchboard numbers are managed under the same account. Message templates are separated by store language and by consent status.
The data it synchronises
Order / shipping status SMS
OTP and verification codes
Branded (originator) sending
Cart abandonment reminders
Delivery reports and status
Consent checks
How the data flows
01
Message types are separated
Informational messages (order, shipping, OTP) are separated from commercial messages (campaigns) from the start. The two fall under different consent regimes, and mixing them creates regulatory risk.
02
Events are defined
Which Shopify event triggers which message is written down: order confirmation, dispatched, delivered, return approved.
03
Consent check
For commercial messages, consent is checked before sending; no message goes to a number that has opted out. An opt-out always wins.
04
Sending
Messages go out branded, with templates split by store language and message type.
05
Reporting and cost
Delivery reports are monitored and unreachable numbers cleaned out. Because SMS cost goes straight to expenses, clearing dead records pays for itself.
What we watch for in this integration
The moment a campaign line is added to an informational message, that message becomes a commercial one; templates are reviewed with that in mind
OTP and verification messages carry a different priority and are not queued with campaign traffic
Registering the originator correctly directly affects delivery rates
Cart abandonment reminders require consent; a recovery chain built without it is risky
Cleaning out unengaged numbers lowers cost and makes the reports honest
The setup process
01
Data and permission analysis
We decide which data flows in which direction, which system is the master, and what API permissions are required.
02
Mapping table
Product, variant, category, warehouse and account fields are mapped between the two systems, one by one.
03
Development and testing
The integration is built on a development store; order, return and error scenarios are tested with real data.
04
Going live
It is released through a controlled switchover, watched closely for the first few days, with the error queue monitored.
05
Monitoring and maintenance
Logging, error alerting and API version updates continue under the maintenance retainer.
