What does this integration do?
The Twilio integration is used to build a single messaging layer across multi-market stores. The sending route and header are chosen by the recipient's country, and SMS, WhatsApp and voice calls all run through the same API. Hybrid setups keeping domestic traffic on a local provider and international traffic on Twilio are also possible.
The data it synchronises
International SMS sending
WhatsApp messaging
OTP / Verify flows
Voice notifications and calls
Country-based sending rules
Delivery status webhooks
How the data flows
01
Country and channel plan
Which channel reaches which country is decided. Sending rules and costs vary considerably by country.
02
Sender identity
Whether an alphanumeric header or a number is used is configured per country; some countries require pre-registration.
03
Event mapping
Order and shipping events are mapped to templates, with language chosen by the recipient's market.
04
Verification flows
OTP and verification processes are built as a separate flow, running independently of campaign traffic.
05
Delivery monitoring
Delivery status notifications land in the system, and failure rates are monitored by country.
What we watch for in this integration
International sending is governed differently by country; one setup does not work in every market
Message language should follow the recipient's market; single-language notifications fall short in cross-border selling
Because cost varies by country, the channel decision is made per market
Turkish consent rules apply to commercial messages sent into Turkey; using an international provider does not remove that obligation
The setup process
01
Data and permission analysis
We decide which data flows in which direction, which system is the master, and what API permissions are required.
02
Mapping table
Product, variant, category, warehouse and account fields are mapped between the two systems, one by one.
03
Development and testing
The integration is built on a development store; order, return and error scenarios are tested with real data.
04
Going live
It is released through a controlled switchover, watched closely for the first few days, with the error queue monitored.
05
Monitoring and maintenance
Logging, error alerting and API version updates continue under the maintenance retainer.
